Letting go
When Erykah Badu sang about that Bag Lady I just knew she was singing for me. When Ledisi wailed about the pieces of her, I was struggling to gather my own. Finally, I remembered Toni Braxton’s breathing command to “Let it go.” Madea said it best, “sometimes we try to hold on to the very things that God Himself, is trying to tear apart.” In the words EN Vogue, “give it up and turn it loose.” Only you know what’s holding you down.
When I was a child my mother’s purse was snatched. she carried fear across her shoulder for what seemed forever…
The fear of “if this will happen again” can be debilitating and in some cases, paralyzing. In order to move forward we have to put fear down. We have to place some confidence in what will happen if we stepped out on faith, with courage. Of course there’s more to healing than this, but even if you have to tote it casually along, at first, this is a start.
Declare it with me: I AM MOVING FORWARD!
Psalms 118:6 - The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Think about a time that you may have had your heart ripped right out of your soul! Didn’t it feel like the end? Did a greater love come along? If it didn’t … believe! It’s coming! What better love to have than self-love. We hear it said all the time, “If you don’t love you, how you gonna love anyone else?” We were created in the image of Love. We were not made to live in fear. We were not placed here to be alone, for the Bible says, “lo I am with you always.” Although we may have some “alone time” these moments are bliss filled opportunities. Everything we go through is training. God is always with us. In those moments of separation and isolation, there are opportunities to fall in love with Him and His promises for us. Catch up, It’s already written….
Romans 5:3-5 New Living Translation
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
